Hi Veronica,
I know as much about Jacaranda as about figs (hah!), but here's a cull from
the University of Cardiff
(http://bodd.cardiff.ac.uk/BotDermFolder/BotDermB/BIGN.html):
Outside the tropics, several species may be found in cultivation as
greenhouse ornamentals. Jacaranda mimosaefolia D. Don (syn. Jacaranda
ovalifolia R. Br.), for instance, is often grown for its foliage. The
Chilean Glory Flower (Eccremocarpus scaber Ruiz & Pavón) is half-hardy in
temperate regions, whilst Campsis radicans Seemann and Catalpa bignonioides
Walter are commonly grown in the open in milder areas of Britain and
northern Europe.
I had a search under various engines, but didn't find all that much.
cheers,
Dave H

Dear all,
A favour please - a good friend of mine will be visiting San Francisco &
Monterey for 3 weeks from the 19th July. Can you suggest some gardens to
visit - she is particularly interested in Californian natives. Any
suggestions would be appreciated.
An old one this - Jacaranda - what's the chance of it flowering in the UK
- Dave ?
Veronica
London - overcast but at least it's not raining today
