Annie,
I don't have any direct experience with Cercidiums
here in the SF Bay Area, but I did ask Kristin
Yanker-Hansen how her Palo Verde was doing out in
Danville, and it did not seem to be growing nearly as
readily as her Parkinsonia aculeata trees, which were
in full magnificent bloom and 25 feet tall by across.
She has been growing this from a small plant purchased
in Arizona, and I think she said she's had it for a
couple of years now, but it hasn't grown much. I
suspect that this is one best grown with hotter
conditions and less winter rain. They are hardy
enough with our degree of cold, but would most likely
prefer hotter summers. Hopefully you will get some
replies to this from people growing them in southern
California nearer the coast, they do quite well in the
Palm Springs area.
