Last fall I planted Acanthus spinosus on an unwatered east-facing bank that gets sun in the morning, and shade after that. Companions are various cistus and lavenders. They're fine but the acanthus, which is blooming, was getting limp so I dumped a bucket of water on it. That was what it wanted, as it has perked up.
Do I need to plant it somewhere where it will be watered during the summer? Or does it need complete shade?
