Moira was kind enough to send me some metrosideros seeds-if they ever get
big enough, they will make spectacular wind-blown trees. Check out pictures
in Botanica.
Since I garden (mainly) on a mountainside in Crete, my trees and shrubs have
had to withstand gale force winds and a large temperature range (no salt.)
I can recommend the nerium oleanders, cortaderia, cypress, pyracantha,
pittosporum tobira, thevetia, cedrus livani, arbutus and olives of course!
What's not to like about nerium and cortaderia? Can't kill em even if you
want to...also the toxicity issue (oleander, thevetia.) Otherwise, quite
satisfactory work horses. The cortaderia and cedar are elegant blowing in
the wind...
