Thank you everyone for this really interesting and
fascinating discussion. I have taken many of the very valuable comments to
our local garden group.....they were all much appreciative of the effort
and expertise put into the responses. I have started to water
my young plants early morning now as I am sure that fungus has
been one of the problems with some plants dying. Also the dense clay soil.
Non aerobic. I have just lost a small (3ft ) Ruta graveolens in
the last few days (planted last September). I thought it was a tough
specimen but............! Unbelievable really......
