Doug -- I've grown Kangaroo Paws from seed, if you are able to find seed or
find anyone who has plants (though I don't know how reliable they are in
terms of breeding true. Mine were from a packet I had purchased). They
start easily, I did nothing special to treat them, and they were full size
and blooming in a year. I bought the seed in Santa Barbara area and grew
them in San Diego area, so your local should allow you to do the same.
