Finally a topic with which I am well versed. Tree Tubes. I have used them
extensively in my reforestation efforts. They're costly, but very effective
at establishing woody plants by seed, especially in hostile environments.
Providing a "safe site" from sunburn and rodent/livestock predation are the
two main reasons I use them. The focus of my efforts center around Quercus
lobata (Valley Oak), Q. douglasii (Blue Oak), and Aesculus californica
(California Buckeye); all of which have shown dramatic growth rates in tubes.
Apparently research has shown everything benefits from tree tubes except coni
fers. I encourage you all to try them... I'm sure you'll be pleased with the
results.
You can aquire tree tubes through "Treessentials"(1-800-248-8239) . They
come in a variety of different heights depending on needs. My 5 foot tubes
without stakes came to about $3.00 a tube after shipping.
