Welcome to Medit-Plants -

All of the plants you mention seem to stand a good chance in the climate
of Mallorca, but shelter from winds would be very important. One of the
best hedges I find is Rhamnus alaternus, the Italian Buckthorn. It grows
quickly, tolerates drought when established, can be sheared very narrow
(always good for a hedge) and is a nice evergreen with clean dark foliage
all the way to the ground in most cases.

You are now neighbors to Hugo Latymer, a member of this group and author
of The Mediterranean Gardener (see a review on the Medit-Plants pages:
http://www.support.net/Medit-Plants/inprint/tmghl.html), as well as
Heidi Gildemeister, the current president of the Mediterranean Garden
Society (see http://www.support.net/Medit-Plants/groups/mgs.html) and
author of Mediterranean Gardening: A Waterwise Approach (see
http://www.support.net/Medit-Plants/inprint/mgawahg.html). Each of these
books are good references, and the Mediterranean Garden Society is a
great group which publishes a monthly journal written by members. Hugo
also runs a major nursery on Mallorca, so he would be a good resource for
you as well.

Good luck and enjoy developing your new garden!!
