Re: Lavender
Hi Pamela,
My favorite lavender for cutting is Lavandula multifida. The branched stalks
produce short fluffy heads of vivid purple flowers over fern-like foliage.
Flowers are produced year round in So. Calif. with the best ones during the
cool times of the year. The last time I was at the nursery I saw they had it
labeled Lavandula pinnata buchii.
Can you grow lavender in Hawaii? I would think it would hate the high
humidity. If you do try it find a spot with good drainage, full sun all day,
and mulch the plant crown with gravel or small lava rocks. Let us know how
you do with it.
