pruning lemons and mildiued vitis wasHelp (needed in Greece)
I am south of barcelona.
I prune my lemons all the year round, little by little, to encourage their
natural form with a strong central leader, spoiled by early pruning in the
nursery.
I find that hard pruning stops them in their tracks, whilst light and often
keeps them growing and fruiting.
hopefully, once a balanced shape is regained, there will be little need for
pruning.
at my parentīs we had two large lemon trees unpruned, with a beautifully
balanced shape, tall conical, loaded with fruit for most of the year, wich
was gathered with a tin cup at the end of a large pole.
my vitis never gets any mildiu, the again, never gets fertilized and hardly
ever watered.
I am under the impression that fertilizing renders them prone to mildiu..
south western exposure is not considered very desirable here. both plants
and people get cooked in the afternoon sun.
hope this helps.
