Papaya seeds

I have obtained some fresh payaya seeds (Carica papaya), some
of which I intend to plant, and some of which I would like to store for later
use. The seeds have a thin membrane around them, which can be removed
by rubbing. Should this be done before planting, or will they germinate if
the membrane is left intact?
For drying and storage, should the membrane be first
removed?
