>From Brian Mathew's THE IRIS: I.
decora presents little difficulty, but does not persist in open ground for
very long. A deep pot in an alpine house or cold frame suits it best, where
the plants can be nearly dried out in winter when dormant. In the summer it
prefers cool growing conditions with plenty of moisture through to flowering
and fruiting time in June to August. (syn. I. nepalensis) native to the
Himalayas over a very wide area frrom Kashmir in the north through Nepal,
Sikkim, and Bhutan to the provinces of SW China, Yunnan and Szechuan. To
the north it reaches into southern Tibet .... It is a plant of open sunny
hills and pastures, mountain scrub, rock crevices or clearings in
rhododendron forest, flowering in May to July at altitudes of 1000-4300
meters.
Yours most respectfully,
Michael Larmer
