Re: Lychees in Northern California

Hi Carol,

check the california rare fruit grower's website. I know they have
information on lychees as I have researched growing
lychees in southern california. In Hawaii, the lychees I've seen grow in
sunny places with moderate moisture which may translate into lots of water
in a medit climate.

If growing a tree isn't possible in northern california, try buying fresh
lychees in the asian markets (e.g. Ranch 99 in the Bay Area). I haven't
seen them recently but they were available in the fall so check in summer?
the ones I had weren't as good as the ones I've tasted in SE Asia or
Hawaii but better than the canned ones which taste mostly of sugar syrup.

happy hunting
Angela
