These are actually native to California. I've seen them growing wild in
this area actually. Though they are kind of tall for growing in lawns. (in
my garden the tall varieties would work well since I just have ornamental
grasses). In fact when I was working with the restoration project at my
school we frequently dealt with these plants as a part of our work.
