Re: alternative to a boxwood hedge
To add to Diane's list (though if it's going to be a site suitable for
lavender, is it also going to be suitable for camellia??), what about
cotton lavender, santolina? - either a single species or you can get a
'patchwork' effect by using two or more differently foliaged species
(one of the greys and one of the greens, perhaps)? In high summer,
neat enough to satisfy your husband but relaxed and opulent (and
scented and Mediterranean) enough perhaps to satisfy YOU? Ok so by the
end of the winter and, after trimming, in early spring, they look a
bit (to be honest, more than a bit) gaunt and devastated - but that
really is only for a few weeks. They're really perfect for a natural
low informal 'hedge.'
