Can anyone tell me if Myrsine would be suitable as a
clipped hedge kept at 18" tall x 12" wide(45cm x
30cm), similar to a dwarf boxwood hedge? I am
uncertain if
Myrsine can be kept this small, all the literature
I've read recommends minimum size of double this. The
reason I ask is that the dwarf cultivar 1 gallon size
Buxus microphylla 'Winter Gem' or B. sempervirens
'Green Beauty' shrubs are so tiny as available
locally, and I was thinking of substituting Myrsine.
The budget is a little tight to use 5 gallon Buxus for
the amount of hedge needed, and I am at a loss to
think of other similar shrubs with small deep green
leaves suitable as a tight clipped hedge for a sun to
partial shade garden in the Oakland hills.(USDA zone
10a).
Good idea, or asking for trouble?
