Melanoselinum decipiens blooming

An Umbelliferae plant from the Azores/Madeira,
Melanoselinum decipiens received from the two Annie's
at Annie's Annuals is getting ready to bloom. The
multi-branched flower spike is at least 3 feet across,
and the large tree dahlia-like glossy bronze purplish
winter tinged foliage has been a nice tropical touch
through the winter as well. It seems to be just as
happy in full shade as sun, but more vigorous in sun.
I haven't grown this before, and am impressed at how
quickly it has grown from 6 inches tall to 4 feet,
since being planted out last October.

Anyone know if it really is monocarpic, or can I
expect it to stick around after blooming? Phillips
and Rix have a good picture of it in volume 2 of
Indoor and Greenhouse Plants. (A case of a book title
directed at the British market rather than the larger
mediterranean climate gardeners!)

Several other plants from Annie's Annuals that are not
annuals, were new to me, are also coming into bloom
now. Thank you Annie for continuing to expand your
selection! These include Vestia lycoides, a subtle
Solanaceae herbaceous shrub from Chile for part shade,
with yellow flowers similar to Correas; and Senecio
glastifolius, a South African herbaceous perennial
with purple daisy like flowers. This last one is
definitely a winner, a good back of the border plant
with interesting foliage, good structure, and the
virtue, (in my mind), of being easily propagated from
cuttings.
