Re: senecio petasitis

It is a lovely part shade herbaceous shrub here in northern California. Beautiful velvety leaves, about 8" across. Spreads, but not rapidly. Can be whacked back if it gets too tall. I keep mine at about 4 feet. At the Strybing Arboretum in San Francisco, it does seed around a bit. I have never had a seedling come up anywhere, though. If you like this plant, you will also probably enjoy S. cristobalensis. I would not imagine either would be drought tolerant.

Seems it is a pest in NZ but is it also a pest in CA? Any comments on how it grows, how large it grows, what it goes wtih, etc?
