Re: Entirely Different Subject

Whereeer you decide to go, when you get to England, pick up a copy of the paperback pubcation, Gardens Open to Visit.  It is a county by county list and description of thousands of private gardens that are open to the public on various weekend days throughout the season.  The owners collect entrance fees of a couple pounds, which go to a charity fund (formerly headed at least in title by the Queen Mother).  Wherever you are in England, it will list gardens open to visit on a weekend.

I am traveling to England and staying at Goddard's (Luyten) in the hamlet of Abinger Common near Guildford, at the end of May.  Then we are on our own for another week.  So, where to go that is not a tremendous distance, but fascinating and serene?  I love the English countryside, am an avid garden enthusiast, and enjoy the out-of-the-way intrigue.  We need to figure out where to stay, etc.  Open to all suggestions.

Thanks!
