Thanks to all who have responded. My tardiness in reply is due to some unexpected fallout from our recent “shelter in place” order in the San Francisco Bay Area, not the least of which is helping three octogenarians (one relation, two neighbors) for whom this time has become quite frightening!).
It was so nice to “enter” this virtual circle of like-minded friends to talk about something beside the constant news of the day.

Hello
The second one with the white flowers is cherry laurel, Prunus lauricerasus. The flowers are not, to my knowledge fragrant, but the leaves are glossy and evergreen. Makes a lovely hedge.
The first one with the yellow flowers is Ligularia, I,think, but it’s now called Farfugiua(?). Better in shade, I think.

Recently, a friend sent me a few photos of plants to identify. These two look familiar to me but I’ve not been able to find them in my books. I believe they were growing in the Oakland/Berkeley area. Thank you for any assistance you can provide.
