If this is a plug you will forgive it. The
University of California at Santa Cruz Arboretum has an enormous collection of
So.African, Australian, NZ, a few Chilean plants as well as a modest California
collection. In the current issue of their Bulletin there is a report on what
plants were damaged by our winter freeze a few months back. It won't be on their
website so you will have to get their bulletin. You can do that by joining -
website: http:/www2.ucsc.edu/arboretum/
There is an interesting contrast to the terrible
freeze of 90-91 - plants we lost then were not affected this time and
vice-versa. Someone should write an article on the effect of shade on
frost-hardiness and the effect of trees and large shrubs that protect Med plants
during frosts.
This plug is sent by a volunteer at the
Arboretum and is not an official plug.
