Many thanks for the replies that have been sent regarding this topic.
It seems that the Roystonea and Licula spinosa have considerable
potential for shletered spots outside, once grown on a bit.  L
grandis, being quite compact and a total charmer, will decorate the
house in winter and the patio in summer.
