Anyone planning to attend the annual plant sale at the Huntington on
Sunday, May 21st should know that from this year forward the sale is
open to members only. The fellows will shop on Saturday evening, the
time that used to be reserved for members only. It will be possible to
purchase memberships at the entrance prior to the opening of the sale at
10 a.m., believe the rate is now $65, but not sure as I'm a senior and
pay $50.
A passing comment on anyone feeling sorry for Southern California
gardeners, keep your pity to yourself. Within a 20 minute drive from my
Glendale home I can be in Descanso Gardens, the Huntington, or the L.A.
County Arboretum, that's over 600 acres of botanical gardens, world
class camellia, rose, and cactus collections just for starters. When I
want to go another 20 minutes I can reach Rancho Santa Ana with its
fabulous collection of California native plants, or in my backyard is
the Theodore Payne Foundation with more of the same. We're doing just
fine down here, thank you very much!
Anne Williams, glad to be from the south!
