Hello,
I have a volunteer plant growing in my yard and need some help in
identifying it. The flowerheads open in the morning and close in the
afternoon. I don't think they open again the next day.
A flower closeup is here: http://www.kozminski.com/Photos/Mystery1.jpg
A photo of the entire plant is here: http://www.kozminski.com/Photos/Mystery2.jpg
Initially, I thought it could be a fritillaria of some kind that I
planted there about 2 1/2 years ago and never had it bloom; the leaves
did resemble some fritillarias. But then the flowers started opening,
and I don't think so any more...
Any ideas what is this beast? I saw it also growing in some parking
lot, among shrubs; obviously not planted on purpose, so I presume it is
some wild local native.
