Title: RE: Slightly off topic - Mere vegetables
I did
a little web search - is Urtica dioica ssp. holosericea the only native subspecies? Or is there something 1.
smaller, and 2. less water-loving?

Subject: RE: Slightly off topic - Mere vegetablesYes, we have both native (Urtica dioica) and introduced European (Urtica urens) nettles in California. They have opposite leaves and look vaguely mint-like except for the drooping clusters of tiny flowers from the leaf axils.

Subject: RE: Slightly off topic - Mere vegetablesOkay, questions again: do we HAVE nettles in California? Native or
introduced? (I'm sure I've met something that qualified as a nettle when
pulling "weeds"...)
