Thanks for this fascinating reference. I had just heard of La Mortola,
but not the Walton connection.
The more I hear of the Med. the more I regret that I have not had the
opportunity to see all the lovely and interesting places it contains. In
my youth I several times sailed through it going to and from East
Africa, but saw very little of the land apart frome a bit of Egypt plus
Genoa and Marseilles. Oh and Gibraltar, where my mother and I stayed for
a week waiting to join a convoy in 1939 just after the outbreak of war.
I also had tea at an RAF base in Malta when flying to Britain in 1945,
but most of what we saw was a great many wrecked planes lying round the
airfield!!
Sadly, unless I win the local lottery there is absolutely no chance of
doing a trip these days, so I will continue to be thankful for the
internet and the work of people like you which at least give me a chance
to see the places in my mind's eye.
