La Mortola is another garden, on the Italian border with France, on the
Riviera. It is older and perhaps more famous that La Mortella. La Mortola
is usually known as the Hanbury Garden at La Mortola (which is the province
name, Hanbury being the family name of the original owners). La Mortella
was named for the wild myrtles which grow there, and it is far south in the
Bay of Naples. It is unfortunate that two garden in Italy should have such
similar names - endless confusion. I have a page on the site for each:

I've been to each and they are both worthy of a trip. I'm sorry you will
not be going soon, but I can certainly understand. Our trip to France and
Italy last year will have to suffice for some time to come. . .
(but then California is perhaps not so far . . . ?)
