Re: talking about Salvia...

Alessandra,
You have planted one of the most beautiful palms I
have ever seen in your greenhouse, I fell in love with
this palm when I first saw it in a friend's garden in
Malaysia, where it is native. It amazes me how
relatively rare plants get distributed and collected
around the world so quickly.

As to your question regarding the Salvia, I would
guess that your suspicions will prove valid, although
I have no direct experience with this plant myself.
Would you consider a Pelargonium tomentosum? I think
it would like these conditions, however it is so fast
growing and sprawling that it might be too labor
intensive in such a location. It does beg to be
touched, will handle low light, and its foliage is
very fragrant. I don't think it would tolerate
regular overhead watering under such high humidity
indoors, but if kept dry, should do akay.
Plectranthus zuluensis would also do well in these
conditions, and both these plants are actually quite
drought tolerant in warm shade conditions here in
northern California.

Regards,
David Feix
