Re: Melianthus nectar

Melianthus is a Greek word and means honeyblossom. Meli=Honey, Anthos= Blossom.
I've never heard that it's toxic.

Considering the wealth of hummingbirds that fight over the nectar, I doubt it is toxic.

I wasn't aware that the plant itself is toxic, Barry, where did you encounter that information?

Nan

PS Did you know that Melianthus' common name is honey bush?

Hi all,

My Melianthus major is finally in bloom and is quite impressive. The
flowers are opening and I know that they produce a LOT of nectar (I
tipped a flower and a few drops spilled out. I know that this plant is
toxic, but is the nectar itself toxic?

Thank you,

Barry
