Re: Sunflowers - Tiger's Eye


 I live in western Oregon, so I assume we are in similar ecosystems.  My
experience here is that sunflowers have to be started indoors and kept
there until they are BIG (well, maybe 10-12" or so).  Have you tasted
sunflower sprouts in salads?  They're quite delicious, and the slugs
obviously agree!  Once they get some size on them, their stems are tougher
and apparently less tasty -- at that point the slugs tend to take one bite
out of the stem, but not cut it all the way through, then the slug moves on
to better fare and the plant survives, albeit with a funny-looking stem.
