Hi francisco

While some New Zealanders would share your desire for their property to
be a hidden private place, a good number here are such keen gardeners
thay not only do not conceal their gardens with high walls or fences but
actively open and show them to the public. This is quite often done for
charity, but a few with particularly lovely and well-maintained
properties show them regularly as a commercial undertaking and advertise
opening hours etc in a special annually-produced guide. This does not
only apply to the largest and grandest gardens, but a fair number of
those with only tiny suburban properties show them too (and some of
these are indeed little gems of design or specialization)..

I did open my own garden once in one of those charity showings, but
found it too much hard work to get the whole thing up to standard at
once. However I am well enough known locally for my advocacy of organic
gardening to get quite frequent visits from small specialist groups
anxious to see mainly the food-producing parts, and not at all put off
by a bit of untidiness.

I must say I do get a lot of enjoyment out of showing my garden to other
keen gardeners (even some of the untidy bits, which nevertheless still
have their own charm).
