Hello Jan,

Thanks for the suggestion on S. verticillata 'Purple
Rain'.  I have not used this plant before, and wonder
if it can also take a bit of shade, in your
experience.  The garden I have this  situation in is
on the north side of a house with a Saucer magnolia as
well, so it isn't really in full sun.  Betsy Clebsch's
book on salvias seems to recommend full sun and weekly
watering.  This garden also doesn't get watered much,
as there is no automatic irrigation.  Any experience
with these additional constraints?
