Isabel,
I couldn't remember if I sent this on to you
originally, excuse the duplicate if this is the second
time.
Sorry that I don't know of a source, but you are not
the only person who covets this plant! I think that
this was an introduction by Dr. Dennis Breedlove, and
know that it was named for Dr. Mildred Matthias, who
was associated with UCLA and their botanic garden. If
memory serves, it comes from southern Mexico
cloudforests, either Oaxaca or Chiapas. Roger Raiche
is one of the few people who is growing it, and is
responsible for its planting at the new Strybing Entry
Garden. It may have received a write up in one of the
back issues of Pacific Horticulture Magazine.
