The only thing I had previously heard about Seattle is that, in the
words of the song "The skies are always blue" (Which I rather doubted)

What I did want to mention, however, was a method invented by a friend
to keep birds (In his case mynahs) off ripening figs. Each of the fruits
closest to ripe was enclosed in a little bag made by cutting the foot
part off old pantyhose. Anyone picking one of these bagged fruits was
supposed to transfer the cover to the next ripest. Of course not all the
fruit could be protected in this way, but it did allow the humans a fair
share.
