I live in the central coast of California where there is a bird sanctuary
and it is possible to completely discourage herons from eating the fish
from the fish pond by putting a dummy heron or egret close to the pond.
Apparently they are territorial. The dummy can be cut from a piece of
wood about life size and works like a charm.
