I find that interesting too. And yet, Pinus radiata is dying off here
because of an introduced fungus whish it has had no previous experience
with! I think its a remnant of the iceages, and i heard that it along
with Cupressus macrocarpa were widely distributed all over the west
during the ice age.Although there is a program in i think carmel to
clone the resistant trees and use them to help start resistant trees.
They even inoculate seedlings witht he fungus to see which ones survive
(the best ones at most have just a few dead needles).
	Its interesting also to note that blackberry bushes here dont go out
of control, but in Hawaii they can cover everything in their thorny
canes.
