Re: About David Poole

In the history of a planet, it wasn't so very long ago that folks went
around with one name. Then it bacame apparent that there were too many -
oh, just for example - David's running loose without proper supervision
and it became difficult to tell the "David's" one from the other. The
convention of family names was the solution so that we could have, on one
hand, a David Poole and on the other a David King. It was immensely
helpful (I have, for example, never picked up Mr. Poole's laundry,
mistakenly or otherwise) and has remained the convention to this day. It
is no longer enough.

We are now part and parcel of a global community. The circumstances of
the poor unfortunate Mr. David Poole being confused with our aquaintance,
the hale and hearty Mr. David Poole, only serves to bring into sharp and
positive focus the shortcomings of this system. The solution, to me at
least, is clear: newspapers and governments must include the person's
email address as a part of their identification. Hence, the recent
article about the demise of a soul named David Poole would have cleared up
any and all confusion and grief before it even started! The unfortunate
death of David Poole (someone@somewhere.org) would have in no way startled
someone who knows David Poole (dave-poole@ilsamn.demon.co.uk).

Write your elected official and your local editor at once! Your can find
their email addresses on the web - it will make your request so much more
poignant!

Thank you for your time. It is so exhilarating to be on the absolute
cutting edge of technology, it just makes me giddy sometimes.

David King (greeman@ucla.edu - in keeping with this innovation)
