Re: achillea not thriving

Hi Barabara and ?

Having read that yarrow is said to improve the health of
nearby herbs by enhancing their oils, I have dutifully seeded
it with mine in my garden. It also grows strongly in my yard,
multiplying happily, forming groupings. It is thought to be a
terrific plant for low-maintanence yards because of its
resistance to pests and drought, as well as for taking foot
traffic well. I have always found it a vigorous grower.

I doubt it needs replanting or moving every few years.

Barbara, I'm sure yarrow needs no mulch and probably
little or no compost. In the high desert it grows wild, where
there is little or no moisture or humus for it to feed on.
The yarrow may be suffering if your garden is very well
watered or humid; leaf disease may take advantage of
those sorts of conditions.

I might recommend transplanting to an area that receives
full sun and is not watered regularly. If the yarrow has
clumped together very tightly, you may want to divide
it and give the roots some room to play.

Cheers,
Ann
