Hello Nan, Cali and David,
Haemanthus albiflos is evergreen, but its most active growth is during
september until december and again during the spring. They are actually
in flower now (white paint brush) Should be grown in heavy shade and
make an attractive pot plant for a veranda or indoors. But in our garden
right on the mediterranean (Cassis near Marseille) its grows quite
happily in full ground under un
arbousier (Arbutus unedo), where I will water it occasionally during the summer.

We also grow there Haemanthus coccineus and sanguineus in the full
ground which need acompletely different position; They are winter
growers needing a dry summer rest and a sunny position. They can be
grown in pots or in full ground in the coastal areas. This year we had
a very generous flowering in Cassis with an abundant production of the
seedberries. The very spectacular bright red flowers appear before the
leaves at the end of August and september (late summer). During the
winter the enormous leaves continue to expand 15cm wide and upto 60cm long.
For further details you may consult our website with pictures and
more detailed cultural instructions.
Kind regards
