Re: Irises


There is one that is ubiquitous all over Turkey, at least in the west; I 
believe it's I. germanica.  Here it's very common in cemetaries, and 
associated with them by many folks.  (Cemetaries are arguably some of the 
most beautiful places in Istanbul, though you won't see it mentioned in the 
guide books.)  It's a bearded iris, around 50 cm high (but can be taller), 
purple flowers.
