Re: Green wall/living wall/mur vegetal

Hi Nan,

The wall has a system of porous pipes embedded within it, attached to a pipe which can be attached to a water supply with a timer.  I have to admit that I think there is a slight ethical problem about constructing something which require permanent irrigation in a summer dry climate, esp when it would be simpler to plant a climber in the ground!  However, I do think the idea has application for small courtyard and terrace gardens where there is no soil.  It's displayed in a public space in a local village.  Will try and get some close ups of the plants sometime and post them up too.

How wonderful, Gill!  The only other living wall I've seen was tropical plants in the indoor bathroom of a colleague in Canada - filled with orchids, pepperomia, etc.  It was watered by a mist system and since it was in his bathroom, it benefitted from shower and bath humidity.

How are you irrigating this wall?  How is it displayed?  I'd love to see a close up of the plants too!

Nearly a year ago I posted a notice asking for hints about constructing a living wall in a Med climate; a number or people offered helpful hints - thank you everyone - and a number of people said that they would like to know how it developed.  So, for your info, the mur vegetal has been constructed and is now installed in a local village.  If anyone is interested to know more then see www.lapetitepepiniere.com - Garden News - Mur Vegetal.
