I'm not an expert on daffodil bulbs, but I think that the flower sets in
the bulb the summer before, so it sounds like your bulbs may not have been
of good quality when you got them. If you open a bulb up in winter time
you will find the bud of next year's flower already there waiting for
spring (if it is going to flower). It's a long time since I did this test,
so experts please correct me if I'm wrong! If this is the case your
fertilizer will not show any results until the following year.
