Hey, wait a minute! I have a gorgeous 4-foot tall Japanese maple (now
nearly pinkish-red) among my phlomis and santolina (in a rock garden).
What's wrong with that? ; ) I get your point, but sometimes you can make
seemingly weird combinations of plants work — at least in YOUR mind.
Then again, this is California, and we're always doing strange aesthetic
things. I guess I wouldn't do this combo in Tuscany...
