Well I don't like it much myself Moira, but it certainly works and
dissolves in no time at all, washing well into the soil.  It also
seems to encourage masses of worm activity which means good aeration
and that can't be bad.  A young off-shoot of 'Elephant's Ear'
(Alocasia macrorhiza) which in early July was only about 8" high got a
shot of that and the next leaves grew to nearly 2 feet long on 30"
stems - only a couple of weeks later.  It has done wonders for Cannas
which are still flowering themselves silly and even 'small bananas'
such as Musa velutina, went from nothing to the sky in no time at all.
When I see that kind of response, my own sensibilities have to take
second place.
