Life spans

Its an interesting question, when you are planning a garden, obviously the backbone of the garden needs to be long lived plants and in the limits of one's own area, you learn what will stay and what wont.   Some catalogues and reference books say long lived or otherwise.   Apart from that, if you observe other gardens you see what has settled happily and made good sized plants and clumps.   Of course there are always little micro environments where some otherwise chancy plant will settle down and live happily.   Even so. many people confess that some particular plant just wont 'do' for them.   Perhaps just trying it is the only real way to find out.
