The NZ Kauri does not grow nearly as tall as redwoods, around 30 meters
(100 feet) is normal, very occasionally twice that height, but they drop
their lower branches as they mature, and end up with a massive
cylindrical trunk which is anywhere from 3 to 7 meters (~ yards) in
diameter. The timber (remaining mature trees are now heavily protected)
is highly valued for furniture and boat-building.
