The question was raised as to ways to anchor rebar
in the ground. . . push and/or pound an 18" or so
section of galvanized pipe or PVC into the ground
and use the pipe like a bud vase with or without
an adhesive. Another way is to first soften the soil by
soaking and then to poke the rebar into the soil. . .
I grab hold of the rebar with a pair of vice grip
pliers and pound on the grasping pliers with a
hammer to drive it deep. It's a bit of work but I've
been able to pound the end of the rebar to a depth of
about 18".
One could also pound in a stake and tie the rebar to
the exposed portions with wire.
