 Elly
it is not only hunting which can destroy migrating birds. Here we have
for instance Godwits which yearly make an epic voyage between NZ and
Siberia.

One of the extremely rare staging posts on this epic journey is in Japan
right on the site which has been taken to build Narita airport. What has
happened there I haven't heard, but either just enough space is left or
they have managed to divert to another site, as Godwits continue to
arrive each summer at least so far.

Whether they will ultimately survive this obstacle remains to be seen.
