Bill,
I agree that Brugmansias are hogs. I feed the ones in the ground with two
or three big handfuls of Osmocote 14-14-14 three times a year: March 1, June
1, and Sept. 1--the same times I feed the roses. I also apply a 3-4-inch
deep compost mulch, heavily laced with half-rotted cow manure in mid-late
spring.
Those in pots I feed with a couple of gallons Miracle Grow once or twice a
month. Of course, this requires that the potting mixture provide adequate
trace elements. If the plants get chlorotic, I give them a cupful of my
azalea mixture which starts out with 40 lbs. of cottonseed meal, 7 lbs. of
blood meal, and 1 lb. of iron chelate.
