Hi Lorraine,
I do the same as Moira with my bulbs and have made a search for ones that
die down early. Paperwhites take a long time! With Narcissus, February
Silver, Feb. Gold, and Ice Follies bloom early and lose the leaves faster
than some.
I have quite a few small-scale evergreen Sedums that I use as ground cover
to avoid bare spots.
